Our desert sojourn is unfortunately coming to an end and soon we must begin our northbound migration back to Alaska in time for summer.
It is hard to believe we have been on the road for almost 5 months now, it has gone by so fast.
We have just spent the last 2 months wandering the deserts of the west and the photos in this post are just a few of the highlights of our time spent in the sand.
Our travels in the desert have taken us to some beautifully lush, desolate and arid locations.
To say the least we have had a blast!
We have met some unusual, talented and unique people.
We have visited good friends living in small mining towns, we have hiked some fantastic trails and the pups have had the time of their lives running free across the open desert.
But maybe most importantly ….we now fully comprehend how good it is to be retired and free to go where we want, when we want.
Soon we will spend a couple of weeks in Thousand Oaks Calif hanging with family and prepping the rig for cooler weather before we start our three week trip home to Denali.
During our drive north we plan on visiting more friends along our route. We may follow the coast, we may head inland or both!
The weather forecaster will guide our travels as usual.
Currently we are camped in a remote desert wash alongside an ancient lava flow in Mojave National Preserve.
The historic Mojave Road which bisects the park passes near our camp. During this mornings walk we discovered some great petroglyphs along this very old migration route.

Next we will move to one of our favorite hangouts at Tecopa Hot Springs for a good relaxing soak before the drive back into the hubbub of LA…..
