April In Denali

WOW!

We can’t believe we have been stationary at Taylor Base Camp for about a month now!

Its has been great to be home but we also really miss being on the road. The dogs were confused for first couple of weeks and would run to get into the ZEFYR everytime we went somewhere.

April’s weather has brought very moderate temps with mid 40’s during the day and mid 20’s at night. We already have over 16 hours of day light…this is what we love about spring in AK.

Since our return we have seen snow, hail, rain, high winds and warm sunshine, all typical conditions for Denali this time of year.  Once nighttime temps stay above freezing its a  sure sign of spring.

Of course this is the kind of weather the Bernese Mt. dog was designed for. The pups have been in dog heaven rolling in the snow and sleeping on their couch on the back deck at night.

Otis the cat is now back from his winter retreat at the Ebel family mansion where he enjoyed pampered service all winter.  He has returned to sleeping on Denise’s chest at night…a very happy cat.

The rivers are starting to break up, the pussy willows are beginning to bud and local tourist facilities are gearing up for the onslaught of visitors headed our way. By mid May some will be open for business.

The Zefyr is currently in the our shop where its going through a through cleaning and inventory in addition to modifying, customizing, adding and updating many items we identified while on the road in the last 6 months.

Our current activities include daily walks with the pups, projects in the garage, knitting, scanning old travel slides, visiting with friends and the occasional trip to Fairbanks to resupply … a very leisurely lifestyle.

This summers plans include gardening, BBQing with friends, longer hikes with the pups, driving sports cars, attending local summer events and prepping the Zefyr for our upcoming departure this fall, now less than 150 days or so away.

  2. Hi Tim, Denise & Pups. Thanks for the video of your home in Alaska, it is beautiful and I loved the music with it. Lois tells me many stories of her time in Alaska and all the great times she has had with her family there. She does miss it, but enjoys and cherishes all her memories, and I enjoy hearing about them. I would love to have been her traveling buddy back then, although I question if I could have kept up with her.😀.

    1. Thanks for the nice comments Mary. Mom does have along history in Alaska and we miss her coming each summer but we also cherish those times. Thanks for taking such good care of her, I know she really likes you. You will have to come up and visit us sometime.
