Welcome to last winter’s adventure while we wander the Baja peninsula in January of 2024.
Don’t miss our latest video above… “In The Middle Of It All”
We highly recommend watching it in 1080P and on a big screen with the volume up turned way up!!
This post is a little late due to unforeseen life circumstances but we bring it to you now better late than never.

On this adventure we are joined by our good friends from Oregon, Mark and Phyllis Motsko.
We spent a few weeks together cruising the back roads, exploring hidden places and visiting some of our old favorite spots.

This post is a continuation of our recent adventure ” Somewhere South Of Normal” where we wander through northern Baja with the Motsko’s.

This post begins with a visit to the village of San Ignacio where we happen upon the 300th anniversary of their mission situated on the town square.

Locals from miles around came to celebrate the anniversary, many coming from local ranches on horseback.
Eventually we head southwest across stretches of flat desert while crossing vast dry lake beds covered in deep layers of crusty mud and dust.
Upon reaching the Pacific coast we find miles of soft sand and not a soul around.

Mark is an avid fisherman, casting his line for hours into the relentless surf catching corvina which is immediately turned into delicious fish tacos.
We walk for miles up and down the beach and surrounding dunes, relaxing around the fire pit in the evenings watching the sun dip into the Pacific.
Bird watching and rock hounding were also highlights of this peaceful place.

Ruby’s passion is running up and down the sand dunes, chasing her ball down the beach and digging holes to bury it in.

Eventually we depart the Pacific coast and head across the peninsula to the Sea of Cortez, spending several weeks tucked in to a little cove where life seems to stand still.

Our daily routine evolves rising with the sun and going for walks before it gets too hot, hanging out in the shade relaxing, reading and napping. In the evenings we go for a swim and visit with fellow travelers. Typically there is freshly caught fish to grill for dinner. This routine is very easy to repeat and why we end up staying for weeks at a time.
A very simplistic way of life

We appreciate you following the big dogs, please stay tuned for more adventures

Hey Tim and Denise – we met you on our way out of Baja, on our last night there. (We have the “Ambition Strikes” rig.). Finally getting around to checking out your site and your adventures, and pondering a trip to Alaska. I had hoped to ride my GS up this summer, but that will have to wait until I retire again. Looking forward to a deeper dive into your videos and posts!
Cheers!
Rob

Loved this video! What lovely sites and happy people. Ruby seemed to enjoy the doggies too. The Portugese Water Dog and Ruby seemed well suited for playtime too. Your daily routines sound just lovely. During these sad times politically, it’s wonderful to see you enjoying the people and land in Mexico! Loved this image too: “Upon reaching the Pacific coast we find miles of soft sand and not a soul around.” We send you love and hugs and wishes for a very happy winter.
Thanks Kay Lynn! Yes Ruby has fun on any and every beach we land on that has dogs. It is a sad time in our country but life goes on regardless… especially here in Baja. All we can do is hope for the best and stay positive. Looking forward to seeing little Duncan and Aonghas in the spring and you guys also!! 🙂
Beautiful, as usual.
